Pratapgarh: District with the worst health indicators of children in the state

According to a Indian Express, the state government is planning to open a Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre to cater to severely malnourished children of the state.

The project, which will be funded by the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), will soon be set up in Pratapgarh, the district with the worst health indicators of children in the state.

The facility will include a four-bed unit in the district hospital of Pratapgarh and a two-bed unit in the First Referral Unit (FRU) in the district. The children in the age group of 6 months to 5 years, who fall in the criteria of severely malnourished, can be admitted in these units for 14 days.

It is certainly good step but too little and may not be sufficient for the district's need. As we know how state machinery works, it might end up in another failure.

The government is also planning to pay Rs 65 per day of admission of the child to the parents to cover their wage loss. The parents will also be given Rs 100 as conveyance amount. I hope that it is not misused again as other government run programs.
